Physical Therapy In Home

Physical Therapy In-Home

Physical Therapy In-Home is a first step for a homebound patient toward restoring your movement, strength, and function. From developing a custom exercise program, performing walking (gait) and functional mobility training, to hands-on (manual) therapy, your treatments will be individually designed based on your own home environment needs. Our in-home therapists have the expertise to use home environments and furniture to achieve many of the same treatments and goals as a clinic. Physical therapy In-home allows the therapist to see how you actually function in daily activities, which often leads to more precise treatments and your optimal progress. We aim to transition you to physical therapy in the clinic when safe and appropriate, with the ultimate goal being your independence.

OAM Physical Therapy In-home serves many different types of patients, and has advanced experience with total joint replacements, fractures, auto accident-related injuries, and advanced debility. We have specialized training with:

  • Post-operative instructions specific to your surgeon’s protocols
  • Orthopaedic medical equipment recommendations and training
  • Functional mobility training (using stairs and getting in and out of your bath/shower, bed, chair, home, and car)
  • Walking (gait) training, including transitioning from a walker to a cane/crutch when appropriate
  • Hands-on (manual) therapy
  • Direct coordination and care with OAM teams to maximize post-operative healing
  • Therapeutic exercise to improve your range of motion, strength, and motor control
  • A smooth and easy transition to OAM Physical Therapy clinics

You don’t have to see an OAM physician to take advantage of our services; we accept patients from any referring physician. We work with you and your doctor to understand your specific needs and goals, and provide you with a personalized treatment program. This close communication means we can adjust your therapy quickly and easily, resulting in a faster recovery for you.

What Happens During My Visit?

We will typically have 2-6 sessions in your home, generally over a period less than 2 weeks. Sessions are about an hour long. Our first visit will be the day of or the day after your surgery discharge. The goal of this visit is pain control; our in-home therapists will help you with your post-operative instructions to minimize pain and swelling in order to help speed your recovery. Remaining visits are aimed at optimizing function while focusing on range of motion and strength.

Do you take my insurance?

We take many different types of insurances; to confirm we accept yours, please contact our Billing Department at (616) 459-4343.

What Our Patients Are Saying

I found [my therapist] to be outstanding. I’ve had numerous at home physical therapy and she is by far the best I’ve ever had; she’s very intelligent, she explains things, and she’s a very caring person. After I have my next surgery, I hope that I get her again because she’s an outstanding person.

-Carol

[My therapist] was amazing to work with after my total knee replacement. Very professional, personable, genuine and caring. I felt very informed with my exercises and she answered all my questions. I really appreciated having her be a part of my recovery process and encouraging me every time we were working together.

-Colene

OAM Home PT is great! I loved having [my therapist] work with me after my knee replacement surgery. She is very thoughtful, caring, knowledgeable and very easy to work with. I like that she could reach out to the doctor’s office for issues with my pain meds not working. She got an answer right away and problem resolved.

-Mary

She patiently worked with me, making sure I was able to move my arm and shoulder with as little discomfort as could be. She did not rush the process as many physical therapists tend to do. Today I have a lot of movement in my shoulder and continue to improve. I acknowledge the skill of [my therapist] for my speedy recovery.

-Onalee
